How do the routes from Barcelona change through the year?

The Western Mediterranean runs all year, and the other routes follow the seasons. Eastern Mediterranean sailings leave mainly from March to October. Crossings to the Americas leave mainly in October and November, Northern Europe trips mainly in spring, and the Canary Islands and the coasts of Spain and Portugal have sailings in most months.

  • Western Mediterranean. Every month, mostly 7 nights, most often calling at Marseille, Civitavecchia, Palermo, Livorno, Naples and Genoa. See Western Mediterranean cruises.
  • Eastern Mediterranean. 280 sailings in all, many of them 14 or 21 nights and many one-way, most often to Piraeus in Greece. Few leave between November and February. See Eastern Mediterranean cruises.
  • Spain and Portugal. Every month, with the most from April on, and many end in Lisbon. See Spain and Portugal cruises.
  • The Canary Islands. 62 sailings through the year, with the most in November and April. Celebrity runs more of them than any other line. See Canary Islands cruises.

When is Barcelona cruise port busiest?

In October and May, on the Port of Barcelona's own forecast. Its annual forecast for 2026 has more cruise ship calls in October than in any other month, then May and September, and the fewest in February and January. Those calls cover every line, including ships that stop for a day in the middle of a cruise that began somewhere else.

The port's forecast and our schedule count different things, so the two columns do not match:

MonthShip calls on the port's forecastDepartures on our schedule
December 20264937
January 2027Not published yet33
May 2027Not published yet86
October 2027Not published yet96
  • The port's column counts every call by every line. That includes lines our schedule leaves out because Cruisebound does not sell them from Barcelona, such as TUI Cruises and AIDA. The port's forecast currently runs through December 31, 2026, and later months fill in when the port publishes them.
  • Our column counts sailings that start in Barcelona and are on sale through Cruisebound.
  • Your sailing day. The calendar shows every ship on the port's forecast for your date, with its terminal where the port has printed one.

The port calls all its forecast data indicative and says it may change for operational or weather reasons, so your cruise documents have the final word.

The Celsius figures and rain are AEMET's. The Fahrenheit figures are our conversion, rounded to the nearest degree. The station is at the airport in El Prat de Llobregat, at sea level. AEMET's table is for that station, not for the port.

  • The fall is the wet season. September and October bring 81 mm and 91 mm of rain, on 5.2 and 6.3 days on average.
  • July has the most sunshine. AEMET's table gives it 305 hours and 1.8 days of rain. It prints no sunshine figure for September.
  • Winter is cool, not cold. The average low stays above 4°C (40°F) in every month, and the station averages fewer than 4 frost days and under 1 snow day a year.

These are long-term averages, not a forecast. Check AEMET's forecast for Barcelona in the week before you fly.
