Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona: Italy, Rome, Venice and the Greek islands

Most Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona are 7-night trips around the western Mediterranean. MSC and Costa run them as round trips to France, Italy, Sicily, Malta or Tunisia, while Viking, Princess and Norwegian end many of theirs in Civitavecchia, the port for Rome. Greek island and Adriatic cruises usually run 14 or 21 nights and most end in Piraeus for Athens or near Venice, so you fly home from there.

Most Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona are 7-night trips around the western Mediterranean: the south of France, Italy's west coast, Sicily, Sardinia, Malta and Tunisia. 861 of the sailings we list go that way. Greece, Turkey and the Adriatic are further east and take longer, usually 14 or 21 nights. Most of those trips end in another country, so you fly home from Athens, Venice or Rome.

Looking for one place? Jump to Rome, Italy, the Greek islands, Venice or what a one-way trip means for flights. The table at the foot of this page lists every western Mediterranean sailing we have, and trips to the east are on the Greek isles and eastern Mediterranean page.

Western or eastern Mediterranean: which should you pick from Barcelona?

Pick the western Mediterranean if you have a week, the eastern if you have two or three. From Barcelona, western trips are mostly 7 nights and mostly round trips, so you fly in and out of Barcelona. Trips to Greece, Turkey and the Adriatic cross the whole sea first, so they usually run 14 or 21 nights, and most of them end somewhere else.

Fares are starting prices per person in US dollars, for the cheapest cabin listed, with taxes and port fees included, as our schedule read them on November 4, 2026. They change daily.

Eastern trips call at many of the same Italian and French ports on the way out, because they start by crossing the western half. A 14-night trip to Athens often spends its first week where a 7-night round trip would.

What are the 7-night Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona?

Mostly round trips by MSC and Costa. MSC has 11 ships on 7-night sailings from Barcelona, calling at Marseille, Genoa, Naples and Palermo, with Valletta or La Goulette in Tunisia on some. Costa's add Palma de Mallorca, Civitavecchia and Savona. Royal Caribbean, Norwegian and Virgin Voyages run 7-night round trips too, and Viking and Princess sell 7-night trips that end in Civitavecchia.

These are the 7-night routes that repeat most often in our schedule on November 4, 2026. A line can swap a port or change the order from one departure to the next, so read the itinerary of your own sailing.

How the lines differ in the ports they choose

The big lines overlap on Marseille and Civitavecchia and then split. In our schedule:

  • MSC and Costa call at Palermo and at La Goulette in Tunisia far more often than any other line. MSC uses Genoa where Costa uses Savona.
  • Royal Caribbean and Princess stop at La Spezia on nearly every trip. Princess adds Ajaccio in Corsica.
  • Viking calls at Sete and Livorno on most of its 7-night trips, plus Monte Carlo or Villefranche.
  • Norwegian and Virgin Voyages use Salerno. Virgin also has 7-night trips that stay in France and Spain and skip Italy.
  • The small ships of Explora, Windstar and Silversea go where the big ones rarely do: Mahon, Carloforte, Saint Tropez and Comino for Explora, Cartagena and Rapallo for Windstar, Alcudia for Silversea.

Which cruises from Barcelona go to Rome?

Any cruise that calls at Civitavecchia, which Viking and Oceania list on their own itineraries as "Rome (Civitavecchia)". 660 sailings on our schedule call there, and 213 end there. MSC, Costa, Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages call there and sail on. Viking, Princess and Norwegian end many of their 7-night trips there.

If yours ends in Civitavecchia, you fly home from Rome, not Barcelona. Trenitalia sells a combined train and bus ticket it calls the Civitavecchia Portlink: a bus from the cruise terminal to Civitavecchia station, which Trenitalia says takes a few minutes with no stops, then the train toward Rome. On November 4, 2026 its page put the bus at €6.00 a trip, added to the rail fare. Every cruise that calls there is on the Rome page.

Which cruises from Barcelona go to Italy?

Nearly all of the western Mediterranean ones. Of the 7-night trips we list, all but a few Virgin Voyages and Azamara sailings call in Italy. Most call at three of these: Civitavecchia for Rome, Naples, Livorno, Genoa or Savona, La Spezia, Palermo in Sicily and Cagliari in Sardinia. Naples alone comes up on 450 sailings.

The Italy page lists every sailing with an Italian port, eastern trips included.

Are there Greek island cruises from Barcelona?

Yes, though most are long. 96 sailings on our list call at Mykonos and 63 at Santorini, mostly on trips of 14 or 21 nights that cross the Mediterranean first. A few 7-night trips by Royal Caribbean, Celebrity and Holland America sail almost straight to Greece and end in Piraeus, which Viking's itineraries list as "Athens (Piraeus)".

The 7-night Greek trips in our schedule on November 4, 2026:

Royal CaribbeanMessina, Souda Bay (Crete), Santorini, MykonosPiraeus
CelebrityValletta, Rhodes, Santorini, MykonosPiraeus
Holland AmericaValletta, Souda Bay (Crete), Santorini, KusadasiPiraeus

Most Greek sailings are on the longer trips. Princess runs 14-night trips that call at Palma, Marseille, Genoa, Naples and Sicily before Chania, Kusadasi and Mykonos, and end in Piraeus. Its 21-night versions carry on to Crete, Montenegro and Corfu and come back to Barcelona. Viking, Holland America and Celebrity also sell trips of 10 nights and more with Greek calls, ending in Piraeus, in Civitavecchia or back in Barcelona. 107 of our sailings end in Piraeus.

See every Greek call on the Greece page, and the trips that finish there on the Athens page.

Which cruises from Barcelona go to Venice?

Only one-way trips, and Viking sells most of them, as 12 and 14 nights. Our schedule lists the last port under three names: Fusina for 49 sailings, Chioggia for 5 and Venice for 9. What the lines print does not always match that label, so check the port on your booking before you reserve a hotel or a flight.

What the lines' own pages said on November 4, 2026:

  • Viking. Its two Barcelona to Venice itineraries, the Mediterranean Odyssey and the Mediterranean & Italian Sojourn, both name the last port "Venice (Chioggia)", and both say the itinerary "may vary by departure". Our schedule shows Fusina for most of those sailings and Chioggia for a few.
  • Oceania. Its page for an Oceania Sirena voyage from Barcelona to Venice in June 2027 names the last stop only as "Venice, Italy", with disembarkation at 8 AM. It does not name a terminal.

Regent, Explora, Azamara, Seabourn and Windstar also have sailings that end at Venice. Two more Adriatic endings are not Venice at all: Royal Caribbean and Norwegian finish theirs in Ravenna, 18 sailings, and Cunard most often in Trieste, 16. The Venice page counts only the three Venice names.

What does a one-way cruise mean for your flights?

You fly into Barcelona and home from another city, usually Rome, Athens or Venice. Book it as an open-jaw ticket, which airlines also sell as multi-city: out to Barcelona, back from the end port's city. 204 western and 247 eastern Mediterranean sailings on our list are one-way, so check the last port before you buy.

  • Price it two ways. Compare one multi-city ticket with two one-way tickets on the same dates. Which comes out cheaper depends on the route and the airline.
  • Ask the line about transfers. Viking lists "ground transfers with Viking Air purchase" among what its Mediterranean Odyssey includes.
  • Leave time on the last morning. The flying guide covers how long the lines say to allow between the ship and your flight.
  • Ending in Turkey. 15 sailings end in Istanbul. Starting or ending a cruise there follows different rules from a port call, so read the documents guide, which also covers going ashore in Tunisia and Turkey.
