Transatlantic cruises from Barcelona: fall crossings to Florida, the Caribbean and South America

Almost every transatlantic cruise from Barcelona leaves in October, November or December, when ships that spent the season in the Mediterranean cross the Atlantic. All are one-way. Most run 12 to 16 nights with 8 to 10 days at sea. The largest group ends in Fort Lauderdale or Miami, while MSC and Costa send theirs to the Caribbean islands, Brazil and Argentina.

Almost every transatlantic cruise from Barcelona leaves in the fall. These are repositioning trips: a ship that has sailed the Mediterranean all season crosses the Atlantic to Florida, the Caribbean or South America as the season ends. They are all one-way, and most take 12 to 16 nights with 8 to 10 days at sea.

We list 56 of them, all in the table at the foot of this page and on the transatlantic page. On November 4, 2026 the lowest starting fare on a crossing was $503 per person, and the lowest per night was $36, against $51 a night for the western Mediterranean. Those are starting prices in US dollars for the cheapest cabin listed, with taxes and port fees included.

When do transatlantic cruises leave Barcelona?

In October, November and December, at the end of the Mediterranean season. Royal Caribbean's Legend of the Seas, for example, runs 7-night round trips from Barcelona through October and then crosses to Fort Lauderdale. Norwegian Epic, Virgin Voyages' Resilient Lady, Sun Princess and MSC Virtuosa also end their Barcelona season with a crossing. A handful of summer crossings to New York and Philadelphia are the only exceptions.

The next one on our list leaves on November 10, 2026. Our list only reaches as far as each line has published its schedule, so later falls show fewer crossings for now.

Where do transatlantic cruises from Barcelona end?

The largest group ends in South Florida, at Fort Lauderdale or Miami. Others finish in San Juan, on the French Caribbean islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique, in Barbados or the Dominican Republic, or much further south, in Rio de Janeiro, Santos, Salvador or Buenos Aires. Norwegian also ends crossings at Port Canaveral and Jacksonville, and Royal Caribbean at New Orleans.

The counts cover every one-way sailing on our list that ends at that port, so the Miami and Buenos Aires figures include world cruise segments as well as the crossings. MSC's and Costa's crossings to Guadeloupe, Martinique, Barbados, the Dominican Republic and Brazil are in the line table below. The itineraries list Fort Lauderdale as "Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)".

For every sailing that ends in the state, see the Florida page.

Which cruise lines sail from Barcelona to Florida?

On our list, these lines cross from Barcelona to a Florida port: Celebrity, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian, Oceania, Holland America, Princess, Viking, Virgin Voyages, Carnival, Cunard and Explora. MSC and Costa, the two lines with the most sailings from Barcelona, do not. Their crossings go to Brazil, Argentina and the Caribbean islands instead, so check the end port before you assume a big line means Florida.

How many sea days does a transatlantic cruise from Barcelona have?

Most crossings to Florida of 12 to 16 nights have 8 to 10 days at sea in all, and 5 to 9 of them in a row, counted from the itineraries we held on November 4, 2026. The first few days call in Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Madeira, the Canaries or the Azores. Then the ship crosses with no port until Bermuda, the Caribbean or Florida itself.

How the crossing days fall, by where the ship ends:

  • Florida, direct. Legend of the Seas calls at Palma, Alicante and Malaga, then spends nine days at sea to Fort Lauderdale. Holland America's Oosterdam calls at Cartagena, Malaga and Cadiz, then also spends nine days at sea to Fort Lauderdale.
  • Florida, by way of Bermuda. Celebrity's "Spain & Bermuda" crossings spend six days at sea to Bermuda, then two more to Fort Lauderdale.
  • Florida, by way of the Caribbean. Several crossings to Miami and Fort Lauderdale, among them Oceania's, Viking's and Explora's, stop at San Juan, St. Maarten or Antigua after five to seven days at sea, then sail on.
  • The Caribbean islands. MSC's and Costa's crossings to Guadeloupe, Martinique, Barbados and the Dominican Republic have six or seven sea days in a row after the Canaries.
  • Brazil and Argentina. Four to eight days in a row, after the Canaries, Morocco or Cape Verde, then several calls down the coast of Brazil.
  • New York and Philadelphia. The summer crossings go by the Azores, Bermuda, Iceland, Newfoundland or Nova Scotia, so none spends more than four days at sea in a row.

To see how much of a particular crossing is at sea, set its ports against its nights in the table on this page.

What does a one-way transatlantic cruise mean for your flights?

You fly to Barcelona and home from wherever the ship ends. Book that as an open-jaw ticket, also sold as multi-city, or as two one-way tickets: one to Barcelona, one home from the end port. If the cruise ends in Florida or San Juan and you live in the United States, the flight home is a domestic one. From the Caribbean islands or South America, it is another international flight.

  • The trip out. Land in Barcelona at least the day before you sail. The flying guide explains why, and which US airports fly nonstop.
  • The trip home. In the itineraries we hold, almost every crossing reaches its end port between 4 and 9 in the morning. The flying guide covers how long the lines say to allow between the ship and your flight.
  • Price it two ways. Compare one multi-city ticket with two one-way tickets. Which comes out cheaper depends on the route and the airline.

What documents do you need to arrive in the US by cruise ship?

US citizens need their US passport, the same one they fly to Spain on. CBP lists the US passport first among the documents a US citizen can show to enter the United States by sea. CBP's closed-loop rule, a birth certificate and government-issued photo ID, covers only cruises that begin and end at the same US port, so a crossing from Barcelona does not qualify.

What CBP's own pages say for others in your party, read on November 4, 2026:

  • Lawful permanent residents. A valid Permanent Resident Card, Form I-551.
  • Canadian citizens. For entry by land or sea, a valid passport, an Enhanced Driver's License, or a NEXUS, SENTRI or FAST card.
  • Visa Waiver Program travelers. CBP's page lists 42 countries whose citizens can visit for up to 90 days without a visa. They need an approved ESTA and an e-Passport. CBP recommends applying as soon as you start planning the trip.

CBP also says to check with your cruise line that you have the right documents. For the passport rules on the Barcelona end of the trip, from Spain and from the lines themselves, see the documents guide.

Where to go next

  • Every crossing. The transatlantic page lists them all, and the Florida page has every sailing that ends in the state.
  • On the way. Many crossings call in the Canaries and Madeira first. The Canary Islands guide covers the islands as a trip of their own.
  • Before you sail. The terminal guide shows where your ship leaves from.
